Eating According to your Blood Type

"It all starts in our childhood. We grow up in families where we are given food our mothers and fathers believed was good for us, or tasted good. The fact that it tastes good is not an indication of whether the food is good for us. Our blood types were determined at the moment of conception, and although we may be able to change almost everything about ourselves, we cannot change our blood types." (1) I found the best way to alter my metabollic rate and improve it by adding what I can effectively metabolize, is to keep a food/mood journal. I researched the different body-types, gene pools, DNA compatability and the foods available, organic versus processed, hormones and their functions, and what my left ovarian cyst had to do with weight management and proper nutrition.

I discovered "each blood type has different characteristics that allow it to eat, digest, and assimilate food best for that group. Since Os have been blessed with such strong stomach acid and respective enzymes, they are able to metabolize almost everything, even those foods not recommended for them. However, the Bs, As and ABs do not have this luxury, and accordingly, must be more careful in their eating habits, or suffer the consequences." (1) I am AB+ and know after years of trial & tribulation that my diet, lack of exercise, poor stress management and no added meditative practice was making my body suffer from the inside out.

First my body was just packing on pounds because of added synthetic birth control for not the prevention of pregnancy but regulation of irregular and heavy periods. Then came college food, a 3-meal-a-day plan my dad paid for tied in with the tuition and because of so much added salt and processed refined sugar, I blimped out to nearly 160lbs on a five foot five and a half frame ! He almost did not recognize me when he picked me up for vacation in between semesters . . . he promised he would cancel the three meal a day and let me pay as I go because I wanted to shed the unnecessary poundage--it worked out okay.

For the next several years, 15 years since college (1984-85) freshman year at the first college that dad picked me up at; in 2000 I began having no more problem with weight gain (maintaining with ease 120lb) but issues with my gynecological system after having miscarried by choice my second pregnancy, a cystic environment was forever being nurtured. The birth control LoEstrin began this whole ordeal and I can never forgive myself for believing in a healthcare practitioner who was taught the wrong facts about regulating hormones and normal cyclical periods. I knew my bloodtype was AB+, but I never understood the correlation between menstrual cycles, metabollic rate, the hypothalamus and my reproductive system based on my diet, stress tolerance and using 'down-time' to my advantage.

I read that the bloodtype, "Os are like sharks. They can eat tin cans and rubber tires, and wash it down with hard liquor while smoking a cigarette. Of course, this is not true, but a dramatic exaggeration. Nevertheless, Type Os have the highest threshold for abuse of any other blood group, and in the final analysis, it is another reason they live longer." (1) I am not so lucky but I am not doomed.

The book, "Eating According to Your Bloodtype" by Peter D'Amo is essential if you are trying to keep weight off and feel healthy while actually being healthy. I also encourage those of us struggling with the frustration of having tried several diet programs, none of them working, to read my article featured at both HealthMad and Associated Content. Both shed some real light on how to change your metabollic rate and regain power of choosing nutrition 101 as your reachable goal this year !
